Who has access to the materials?
Any institution that registers to use the materials.
Are the materials Free?
A condition of FDTL funding is that materials produced from funded projects will be ‘free to HEFCE institutions or at minimal cost to cover overheads.’ The key point here is what are the overheads? Overhead costs are determined by activity that occurs beyond project end. For example, if we intended only to maintain the web site then the overhead might be £3000 per annum and therefore it would be legitimate to reclaim an amount equal to this from users of the web site. However, we intend to do much more with the materials then we originally intended to e.g. full indexation, critique analysis of key concepts and themes, continued collection of case notes to change 10% of the stock annually to ensure contemprary case file stocks. This kind of ‘added’ activity costs more and therefore, more needs to be collected form users to support it. To continue with developments we have costed this activity at about £1500 per institutuion for 2007/2008 rising in subsequent years to reflect costs of planned activity based on fifty three institutions subscribing.
Is there a limit to the amount of downloads I can make?
No. However, there will be continued developments effecting the materials and it would be better to download as required and then deleting from your PC to ensure that you have the most up to date copy of the materials.
Is there any guidance on how the materials might be used?
It is hoped that this guidance will develop from feedback as the materials are more widely used. Penfield Virtual Hospital has been developed to take full advantage of the case notes and has been successfully used as a tool to fully exploit the case materials.
Why can I see connecting lines between systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings on screen but they do not print?
The connecting lines have been added to the file later as objects. To preserve them in the printed document go to Print from the File Menu and select Document and Markups in the Comments and Forms dialogue box. Print the document and the connecting lines will be included.
